Why no one should buy books from a bookshop
I am fascinated by early man and by the way in which Homo Sapiens has evolved into the complex people who dominate the planet in the 21st century.

Partly as a result I am an avid buyer of books. The other day I was in Waterstones and I found three books that I wanted to buy.

The total cost was over £46, so I didn’t buy them. Instead, I came home and bought them on Amazon where the price was just £29.

Competition levels are poor
Why would anyone buy books from Waterstones except as an act of charity to the owners of the shop? They are totally uncompetitive.

This may be particularly the case with the kind of books I was buying, which were not part of Waterstones’ many special offers.

Nevertheless, it hard to see how Waterstones can ever compete with Amazon when its costs are so much higher.

Amazon is a sophisticated business
