Western markets for stock pickers

I believe that indices for emerging stock markets are going to outperform those of western stock markets for the foreseeable future driven by the much stronger growth of their underlying economies.

This makes it sensible for aggressive equity-oriented portfolios to have a sizeable chunk of their investment in emerging markets.

However, it does not imply that western stock markets are a waste of time because of their much richer choice of individual investments including many from emerging markets.

The best way to gain exposure to emerging markets is via funds that specialise in those markets. This makes sense because those funds are benchmarked against the indices and try to deliver a similar or ideally better performance.
