Canadian firm dials all the right numbers

This Canadian developer of PDAs - advanced phones with e-mail capabilities popular with always-in-touch executives - is a business on fire. 

Initially investors feared the arrival of the iPhone thinking it would make for fierce competition driving down prices. Instead the pricy iPhones not only make my tip's products look excellent value but also highlight the explosive growth in the use of smart phones. 

So far from putting a damper on this company and its share price the arrival of Apple as a competitor seems to have lit the blue touch paper under shares in both companies.

By any standards RIM is a spectacular growth story
Since 1996 sales have grown from $4.7m  to just over $3bn and net income from  $0.5m to $632m.  Forecasters are looking for  supercharged growth to continue.
