If we use the metaphor of a foot race, under communism all the runners are hobbled to make sure they finish equal last.
Under capitalism the cleverest, the hardest-working and the luckiest can finish miles ahead in what over time becomes a very strung out field, albeit with a mass of runners in the middle of the field making good progress.
Put slightly differently, communism keeps everybody poor except for the politicians, capitalism allows for widely differing outcomes.
