Staff writer

Virgin Money was launched in 1995 to target the competitive consumer finance industry, hoping to capitalise on strong public awareness of both the Virgin brand and its owner, Richard Branson.

The company covers all areas of financial services, including credit cards, insurance, mortgages, pensions and personal loans.

One of its most successful products is the Virgin credit card which has had one of the best balance transfer offers around for some time. The company has won various awards for the card, most recently at the Your Money Direct Awards 2007.

Virgin Money offers discounts on multiple policies

Virgin has launched a prepaid cash card to target those people who don’t qualify for a credit card such as the rapidly growing immigrant population - or simply don’t want any credit facility. Like a normal credit card, it can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted, but you cannot go overdrawn.

The company is also looking to grow its customer base on its range of insurance products – Virgin currently offers life insurance, home insurance, pet insurance, car insurance and cancer cover – by offering a 10% discount to existing customers who sign up for a second policy (not life or cancer cover).
