A platinum credit card is just that little bit more stylish than the standard version. Plus they often offer some of the best balance transfer and new credit card deals around.

There are lots of reasons to upgrade to a new gold or platinum credit card. My personal favourite is making myself feel better when I am settling up my share of those big dinners out with friends.
You know the dinners I mean, the ones where you all chuck your credit cards into the middle when the bill comes. Every group has at least one or two people who simply can’t live without an Irish coffee, a cigar and the most expensive brandy on the menu to finish off their meal.
At least with a platinum credit card you don’t get credit card envy as well as having to part pay for their extravagance. And, if the person with the Irish coffee, the Montecristo No.3 and the cognac is YOU, with a platinum credit card you look like you can actually afford your pleasures. Very much a win-win scenario!
Platinum credit cards used to come with hefty minimum income requirements. These days having an excellent credit rating is more important. Different credit card companies have different criteria for this but a good credit rating could mean not having missed two or more credit card payments, not having credit card balances of more than £10,000, having a credit card limit of £5,000 or more already etc, etc. If there is a minimum income requirement it will be in the region of £20,000 a year for most platinum credit cards.
