Most banks are so keen to win your current bank account business that they have dedicated ‘switching teams’ that handle the transfer of your account from your old bank to its new home.
All you do is initiate the switch bycontacting the bank you want to move to. They will do the rest - you don’t even have to notify your current bank.
Your existing bank have to provide your new bank with details of your direct debits and standing orders within three days. Normally your new bank will then check with you that they have all information right so it is worth asking your old bank for a full list of SOs and DDs before you switch.
These days the switching process is plain sailing for most people. If something does go wrong remember that you can complain if they breach the Banking Codeand/or take any problems up with the
Financial Ombudsman.
